Who we are

Haste Academy combats heart disease and stroke through education and public awareness. Established in 2012, the academy was set up in order to improve public awareness and GP education about conditions that lead to heart attack and stroke.   It will orchestrate a public and GP Atrial Fibrillation awareness campaign in 2013 coinciding with the launch of a Guildford and Waverley HASTE Arrhythmia service called HASTENinGS, and our 'Help yourself' campaign which advocates increasing  ‘self awareness’ of common medical conditions that lead to heart disease and stroke.  Its Medical Team offices are based at 2 Huxley Road GU2 7RE adjacent to the Royal Surrey County Hospital.

Dr Graham Tyrrell

I am a GP in Shere, a village to the east of Guildford, and have used the hospitals and consultants in Guildford for the past 35 years. I trained at University College London and St George's London. I have a broad interest in General Practice, including cardiology and vascular disease. I was asked to become a Trustee to offer General Practice perspectives to the aims and goals of the HASTE Academy project . It is important to keep the project patient-focused and improve on the current pathway for investigating heart arrhythmias and prevention of stroke. I believe the plans will be successful. I am married with 3 children and 2 grandchildren.

GP Liason

Dr Alex Heigham Partner Haslemere Health Centre

alex heigham

I am an ex-pro cyclist, current British Masters Road Race Champion and still racing hard. Training and racing is still a big part of my life as my soon to be wife, and fellow GP Natalie will tell you. I am also the newest GP partner at the Haslemere Health Centre, having completed my GP training at the practice as part of the Guildford Scheme.

With the new GP Commissioning coming into force, ventures like the Haste Academy are going to be increasingly important in shaping the future of the NHS. I hope to be able to take ideas back from General Practice to continually develop this Project to meet the needs of the local community.
